The Finger Pulse Oximeter is a commonly used device for checking a subjects blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level and pulse rate. The fitnessASSIST finger pulse oximeteris a very small, lightweight, pulse oximeter - display Oxygen saturation and pulse rate. The pulse oximeter is designed for use in a wide varietu of sports and outdoor environments, high & low altitude, high & low temperature and even in low light conditions. From mountain climbers to gym users the finger pulse oximeter has a significant role to play.
This small and compact physiological monitor is easy to use, durable and reliable and greatly enhances patient care. Featuring a dual colour OLED display and capable of accomodating a wide range of finger size, this oximeter displays SpO2, PR, pulse bar and plethysmogram.
Puulse oximetry is a simple, non-invasive method of monitoring the percentage of haemoglobin (Hb) which is saturated with oxygen, ready to be transported to the working muscles! Pulse oximeters can be used in a variety of siutations but are of particular value for monitoring oxygenation and detection of problems with oxygenation before physical symptoms are present.
In the context of exercise, the fingre pulse oximeter has a role to play in the monitoring of those new to exercise who are at risk of exercise induced medical problems. In the context of sports performance, a change in oxygen saturation is another parameter that will provide indication of an athlete being healthy and their oxygen transport systems efficiency.
The Pulse Oximeter is the perfect device for monitroing a sudden drop in oxygen saturation levels in blood for those individuals are returning to exercise following a prolonged period of being inactive. If you are responsible for working with people to "get active" or starting an exercise programme this Pulse Oximeter is a must have tool within your fitness tool kit.
What is Oxygen saturation (%SpO2)?
A pulse oximeter inidicates the percentage of heamoglobin molecules are carrying oxygen. An oxygen saturation readings of 97% indicates the haemoglobin is carrying almost to its full capacity of oxygen molecules. In general terms oxygen saturation should be greater than 95% at all times, with certain provisoes when at altitude. Oxygen saturation below 90% usually indicates a marked fall in PaO2 (Partial Pressure of Oxygen in Arterial Blood) represnting a serious situation of hypoxia, lack of oxygen supply to the working muscles of the body.
Individuals who have previously been long-term sedentary, when they begin exercising can demonstrate a sudden drop in oxygen stauration, in advance of "collapsing" from fatigue, a pulse oximeter is therefore a very good early warning signal.
